Water Well Checklist
Sectioned View

BASIC WATER SYSTEM

This is a sectioned view of a typical residential water well with a submersible pump/motor and hydropneumatic tank.  We have found that this system is the most efficient/cost effective way to supply water to individual residential homes in rural communities.  Normal maintenance consist of keeping insects out of the pressure switch and annual chlorination of the well.  These wells can vary in prices from $5,500.00 to over $10,000.00 depending on well depth, pump size, tank size, concrete slab size, high-tech devices, plumbing, and electrical.

INSULATION GUIDE

PROTECT YOUR WELL

It is very important to protect your water well from freezing.  Allowing your well to freeze will void the pump manufacturers warranty.  The main objective of freeze protection is to keep cold winter air from coming directly in contact with water filled pipes.  You can achieve this many ways.  We consider insulation as one of the best.  You must properly install the correct insulation to effectively prevent water pipes from freezing.  The best insulation is a flexible foam tube that is cut length-wise with an adhesive strip along the cut.  You can find this at most hardware or plumbing supply stores.  Make sure you buy the correct size and account for valve and fitting thicknesses.  Wrap all water filled pipes with foam isulation tubing and use duct tape as an added moisture barrier.  Be sure to cut a hole in the foam tubing so the schrader valve is exposed to the atmosphere.  DON'T FORGET TO INSULATE THE 1/4" GALVANIZED NIPPLE BELOW THE PRESSURE SWITCH.

Texas State Law on Well Location

WELL LOCATION GUIDELINES

These state of Texas requirements are based on reducing contamination of our water supply.  It is important that all wells are located far enough away from septic systems in order to prevent harmful bacteria from entering our drinking water.  You should always comply with these laws and protect your family.
